The Monroe Extension Master Gardener Association celebrated its 20th
anniversary at a brunch held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Monroe
MSU Extension office. Two members, Ann Myers and Stella Kirby, were
honored for accumulating over 1000 hours of volunteer time over their
years in the association. Past presidents shared memories and Joyce
Blanton spoke to the group about the path on which becoming a Master
Gardener has led her since she took the training and helped organize the
association in 1995.

The association has functioned continuously since 1995, keeping members
informed, helping them meet annual volunteer and education requirements,
maintaining demonstration gardens as a learning resource, supporting and
implementing numerous community projects, and promoting the MSU Master
Gardener Mission. It currently has about forty active members who
continue to recertify each year and all qualified as Advanced Master
Gardeners. Several hundred Monroe County residents took the MSU Master
Gardener training during the time it was offered in Monroe and many
volunteered for several years afterward.
